Looking forward

Today is my (Rachel) birthday.  I can only think of the way my life has changed since this last birthday year.  I got married, and am currently 4 mos. with our 1st child.  I feel very blessed.

I am thinking now about my growing child's future 1st Birthday, and how that day will be marked for them for the rest of their life.  I have a lot of prayers for them.

From what I see from the world around me, I do not want to raise my children in the same way many families in this culture are raising their children.  Yes, I have many radical ideas, that I'm sure you or those around you may not embrace, but that's the joy of being a parent - you get to decide how you raise your kids, right?

The world we live in now is just as wicked as the one I was raised in, but now the evil is more brazen.  I was not prepared for what would hit me in public schools, media, television, etc.  I do not expect to make that same mistake with my children.

Part of my job as a parent is to take responsibility of how my children are raised physically, mentally, spiritually.
I think about what our society will look like in the next 20 years, and I cannot throw them into this without some type of preparation.

My husband and I are committed to:
  • raise our children in the place of the House of Prayer
  • keeping electronics away from them until they are old enough to learn how to operate them
  • developing them spiritually through bible reading and prayer
  • going back to the ways our country's forefathers were raised as some ways of raising our children
  • showing them at an early age that life is not about entertainment
  • helping them discover their purpose in life
  • bringing them to their fullness as adults on this earth, and fulfilling God's purposes through them on the earth.
I am really saddened when I look at children whose eyes are stuck to their phones, who absolutely need ipads and TV shows to survive - who can barely read or write - but who know how to access ungodly and frivolous websites to waste time on.  I want them to have SO much joy and fun, but did you ever think about how we train our children when they are babies?  We give them entertaining electronic toys.  They learn from the beginning that the goal in life is to get to entertainment.  That's why many American adults spend their time at their jobs during the week, and rush home during the nights and weekends to spend their money and time on --fun & entertainment.  Work is seen as something to get through instead of something to enjoy.
The end result is teenagers who despise work, authority, and are rather bored with life because they think they've seen it all, done it all -- and living a fantasy life on the internet.  They are totally unprepared for the coming challenges to our land, and have no concept of what it means to look at other's lives, because they have been trained to become wrapped up in their own.  It is sad knowing our culture has set our children up for disaster.

But -- it doesn't have to end that way.  Christian parents can start early to actually teach their children wisdom and revelation and understanding so they can live lives that please the Lord...

more coming soon....
